Callie Durr Obituary

Mrs. Callie Ruth Richards Durr was born April 2, 1930 in Henry County Alabama to the late Mr. Joe and Mrs. Verdella Smith Richards.  Mrs. Callie made her transition from labor to reward on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 2:42 pm at the home of her daughter in Dothan, Alabama.  Callie Ruth was ninety-two years old.

On October 26, 1950 Callie was united into the bonds of Holy Matrimony with the late James Houston Durr.  James and Callie were blessed with nine children, seven sons and two daughters, though they raised ten.  She was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Durr and her brother, James Henry Richards.

At St. John AME Church, Callie was a member of the Stewardess Board, Missionary Society and Senior Choir.  Callie was very   active until her health declined.  She knew the Word.

Callie was definitely one of a kind that had a unique way of getting her point across.  You might even call her a jokester.  She kept you laughing, no matter the occasion.  Her children loved her cakes.  She would always make her children’s favorite cake during the Christmas Holiday.  Cakes made from scratch, with no recipe book. That was who she was.  She will be truly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memories six sons, Retired Master Sgt. James R. (Mary) Durr of Headland, AL, Minister Bobby J. (Lorine) Durr of Abbeville, AL, Willie E. (Annie) Durr, John L. (Shirley) Durr, Sr, both of Dothan, AL, Ralph L.
