February 5, 1933 ~ October 15, 2022 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Charles Brown Obituary

Charles Brown was born on February 5, 1933 to Bessie Waring Burton and Charles Brown in Savannah, Georgia. As a young child, him and his  family moved to New York.

 

He received his education at Coopers High School.

 

As a young man he enlisted in the US Army and US Merchant Marines, where he traveled the world and served his country.

 

He later met the mother of his children, Mazie Wearing.  They would go on to have Larry Brown and Michael Brown.

 

Later in life he met and married the love of his life, Florance Brown, and stayed married until her passing on December 15, 2015. 

 

Charles Brown, affectionately known as “Daddy Brown” to all, joined Jackson Chapel C.O.G.I.C in 1997 under the leadership of Elder Eugene Smith.  He was a faithful member, serving as Trustee, and singing in the Jackson Chapel Male Choir.  He served faithfully until his death.

 

After traveling the world and completing his tour, he went on to work at Canada Dry, where he retired.  Charles Brown was also a beloved 33rd degree   Mason out of the King Solomon Grand Lodge and a beloved Shriner of the Etemenanki Temple #2.

 

He was predeceased by his mother Bessie Burton, father Charles Brown, son Larry Brown, brother William Brown, and wife of over 45 years, Florance Brown.

 

He leaves behind the mother of his children Mazie Wearing, his son Michael Brown, his grandchildren Larry Corretbey (also known as Charlie Brown), Darryl Averett, Larry Bell, Joan Hay, Shaneai Averett, Michael Brown Jr,  Edwin Hay, Barry (Nate) Brown, Anthony Brown, thirty-one great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and his surrogate son, Clarence Smiley.
