Obituary Mr. Charles Maceo Cole, 72 years young, was born in Samson, Alabama on September 22, 1949 to Charlie James and Mildred Cole.
Charles confessed to Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of Jones Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Clayton, Alabama. He received his formal education in the Barbour County School System, graduating from Barbour County Training School (BCTS) in 1967. While at BCTS, he met the love of his life - “the little girl he fell in love with since she was 12 years old” – Jeanette Steward. They were united in holy matrimony on April 6, 1969. To this union two children were born: a daughter, Yolanda Dionne, and a son, Cedric Dwayne. He was a faithful servant at Jones Chapel A.M.E. Church serving on the Steward and Trustee Boards until he was called home to rest on March 12, 2022.
He served in the US Army, as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, as a Marine Helicopter repairman in Vietnam and a Welding Instructor at Ft. Eustis, Virginia. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he returned home to his beloved Clayton. He worked side-by-side with his father as a carpenter and held jobs at AP Green Bauxite and American Buildings. In 1984, he began his career with the Alabama Highway Department of Transportation in District 76 (Eufaula) and rising to the position of Transportation Maintenance Superintendent in District 62 (Union Springs). He retired in 2009 after a 25-year career.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a daughter, Yolanda (Alfred) Reeves of Tampa, Fl; a son, Cedric (Tracy) Cole of Madison, Al; five granddaughters, Brittany, Deondria, Robyn, Neela and Kenya; a loving sister, Olivia (Victor) Welch of Clayton, Al; a sister-in-law, Geraldine (Melvin) Smith of Columbus, MS; a special niece, Jennifer Diggs; a great niece, ShunTina Diggs; a great-great niece, Taiiya Goodwin; 3 nephews, Terrance (Teresa), Marcus, and Gerald; a devoted friend, Levy Williams; host of cousins, relatives, and loving and devoted friends.
