A century ago God saw fit to bless the late Arthur and Brazillia Hurts Spann with a baby girl name Christine Spann on June 8, 1924 in a small community called Shorterville, Alabama. God blessed Christine to live an entire century as she departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 surrounded by her children at her home. Christine loved her family and worked as a faithful homemaker for her husband and six children. Christine, who was affectionately referred to as T-Baby by her children, She was the happiest when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great and great- great grandchildren who all will miss her very much. She loved her community where she resided all of her adult life.
Christine loved reading the bible everyday and enjoyed puzzles and coloring books. She had no problems having a good discussion about the economy and what was happening in the world today’s time compared to her early life. She was fortunate enough to sit under 18 presidents including witnessing the election of the very first Black president, President Barack Obama.
Christine dedicated her life to Christ at early age and united with the Greater Friendship A.M.E. Church and later moved her membership to Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church after uniting in marriage to the late Adas Jean Sankey. While at Pleasant Grove, Christine was a faithful and loving member and served in many capacities which included serving as a member of the Matrons, Missionary Society, Hospitality Committee, Adult Choir, and Youth Choir Co - Coordinator. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Pauline Chapter 842.
Christine received her early education in the Henry County School System and was fortunate enough to go on and attend Sparks Community College in Eufaula, Alabama at a late age where she obtained a diploma in Home Health.
Christine was preceded in death by her brother Sylvester Spann, sister Elizabeth Spann, sister Pearline Morgan, sister Annie F. Vickers, and grandsons Randy Dozier and Ronnie Dozier.
On April 14, 1947 Christine united in Holy Matrimony to the late Adas Jean (AJ) Sankey and celebrated 75 years of marriage until his departure from this life in 2022. To this union they were blessed with six children; Barbara (Clarence) Grimsley of Shorterville, AL; Robert (Neli) Sankey of Roswell, GA; Larry (Marion) Sankey of Opelika, AL; Leoner Isom of Abbeville, AL; Mary Lynn of Hollandale, FL; and Willie Sankey of Dothan, AL.
Christine also leaves to mourn her memory seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, a special grandson, Rickey Dozier of Dothan AL and a special niece, Delores Spann Spells of Dothan, AL and a host of other relatives, family and friends.
