Born into this world on October 28, 1937, Mrs. Hilda Mae Hill Sanders was the daughter of the late Mr. Abe and Mrs. Essie B. Hill. Born and raised in Shorterville, Alabama, she was the second oldest of eight children.
At an early age, she joined New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Shorterville, Alabama; as a young lady, she married the late Mr. John Harvey Sanders during the summer of July 1959. To this union, five children were born: John Patrick Sanders, the late Robert Earl Sanders, the late Fredette Sanders (Patricia), Felicia Sanders Davis (Tyrome), and Willie Sanders. After marriage, she joined Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama, where she remained a faithful member until her unfortunate death.
Just to name a few of her titles, Mrs. Sanders was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and the matriarch of her family. She worked at West Point Pepperell, the Abbeville Senior Citizens’ Center, and the Judson Thrift Store; she was a Grandmother at Abbeville Elementary School, a volunteer in her community, a wonderful cook, an avid fisherwoman, a dedicated choir member, and a passionate church program organizer. On October 14, 1986, she joined the MINA Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
So, on this day, we celebrate the life of Mrs. Hilda Mae Hill Sanders; we are grateful for the 86 years that we had to spend with her on this earth.
In closing, Mrs. Sanders leaves to cherish her memory her three children: John Patrick Sanders and Willie Sanders of Midland City, AL and Felicia Sanders (Tyrome) Davis of Abbeville, AL; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Williams Sanders of Abbeville, AL; her brothers, Johnny Frank (Annie) Hill of Shorterville, AL and James (Ann) Hill of Abbeville, AL; and her sister, Minnie Lois (Warnsby) Stegall of Detroit, MI.
Finally, Mrs. Sanders leaves eight grandchildren: Brandon Sanders, Benny Weems, Marvin Sanders, Jessica Sanders, Je’Lesa Sanders, Trinity Sanders, Nicholas Sanders, and Treyvin Davis; one Goddaughter, Lillie Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, church members, family, and friends. As we prepare to close this book on the life of Mrs. Hilda Mae Hill Sanders, we say farewell; may you forever rest in peace until we meet again.
