Rev. James Quincy Corbitt was born in Henry County, AL on October 23, 1932, to the late Rev. Andrew Truman Corbitt and Daisy Floyd Corbitt.
He attended New Hope School as a youth and was drafted into the United States Army in 1953. He served and fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955 as a Corporal. In 2018, he was presented with the Ambassador for Peace Medal for his service in the Korean War. Upon discharge from the military, He worked at Wall Lake in Eufaula, AL.
On August 25, 1956, he married the woman predestined for him, Mary Lois Smith Corbitt and they remained married for 68 years. To this union, they were blessed with a son, Bryant D. Corbitt and daughter, Tamara M. Townsend. Rev. Corbitt and his wife migrated to Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1957. He was employed at Monsato Co. And Kerring Brothers both in Kenilworth, NJ. Upon completion of R.E.T.S Electronic School in Nutley, NJ he began his career in electronics at RCA in Avenel, NJ.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Upon migrating to New Jersey, he joined First Baptist Church in Kenilworth, NJ and later New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Elizabeth, NJ where he served as a Deacon, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and led the Youth Department. He also sang with the Holy Cross Gospel Singers out of Elizabeth, NJ. He accepted the call to preach in 1973 and attended Northern Theology School.
He and his family moved back to Alabama in July 1974, and he was employed with Norton TV in Headland, AL and later Curtis Mathis where he was a manager until retirement in 1995.
He rejoined Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. C. S. Pope in 1975. He was called to Pastor New Maranda Missionary Baptist Church in Dothan, AL in November 1976 where he served faithfully until June 2004. During his pastorship, he was instrumental in organizing the Wiregrass United Missionary Baptist Association and served as Moderator for over 22 years. He returned to Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in 2004. After Rev. Pope's retirement, he served as Interim Pastor from January 2008 to July 2009.
Rev. Corbitt departed his earthly home on Friday, March 28, 2025. He was preceded in death by his Parents, two brothers; Joseph Corbitt and Jim Henry Corbitt, three sisters; Annie Ruth Payne, Naomi Graham, and Lois Evelyn Corbitt.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Mary Lois Corbitt; son, Bryant Corbitt (Trina), Dothan, AL; daughter, Tamara Townsend, Eufaula, AL; godson, Frizzell Lewis Jr., Union, NJ; grandson, Brandon L Townsend (Dothan, AL), granddaughters, Brittany L. Townsend (Montgomery, AL), Tyler Ramsey ( Wetumpka, AL ); great granddaughter, Mercer Munnerlyn; sister, Moree Lawrence Shorter (Hartford, CT); brother, Andrew Truman Corbitt (Eufaula, AL); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
