Mr. James Edward “Hot Shot” Lynn was born on June 09, 1947. He was the last of three children born to the late Garland and Ilia Lynn of Abbeville, AL. James grew up in Abbeville and attended Henry County Training School. He joined New Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church at an early age and later became a member of Mary Magdalene Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Thomas.
While continuing his education at Wenonah State Technical Institute in Birmingham, AL, James was drafted to serve his country in the United States Army in 1966 during the Vietnam War Era. After being wounded and honorably discharged from active duty in 1969, he joined the United States Army Reserve as part of the 851st Supply and Service Unit in Abbeville, AL. During this time, he served in Operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Throughout his 20 year military career, he received various honors and decorations. In 2001, he retired as a civil service employee with the Department of Defense while serving as a Lead Heavy Mobile Equipment Repair Inspector.
James married his loving wife, Claudia Ann Porter Lynn on February 19, 1971. To this union, three children were born.
In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing, traveling to bike shows, rebuilding small engines, and working around his home.
He answered the Master’s call from labor to reward on Saturday, February 12, 2022, with his wife and family by his side. James was preceded in death by his parents (Garland and Ilia Mae Lynn) and his brother (Willie Garland Lynn). He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 50 years; two sons: Henry (Leona) Lynn of Prattville, AL and Michael Lynn of Headland, AL; one daughter: LaToya Lynn of Dothan, AL; a special son: Ricky Cooper of Abbeville, AL; his sister: Rosie Mae Singletary of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren: Devante’, Autumn, and Tristan; a special uncle: Charles Brown of Headland, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended church family.
