Mr. Joe L. Facen was born on March 22, 1937 in Comer, Alabama to the late Jesse “Fate” Facen and the late Bessie Lee (Grider) Facen; and raised by his aunt Louisana (Grider) Tarver. He departed this life peacefully but from a broken heart on May 10, 2025 at the Southern Springs Nursing Home in Union Springs, Alabama.
He confessed his faith early in Christ and joined the Galilee Baptist Church where he faithfully worshipped until he was no longer physically able to serve. Dad was a GOD-FEARING man that loved the Lord with all his heart. He received his education from the Friendship Trade School in the Batesville community. Then on to working at the Comer Train Depot, tossing mail from the train. After that he went on to work in Haine City, Florida and Albany, New York picking fruit during the different season. I can't count all the years Dad pulpwood and logged. He worked until he was almost 80 years young, that’s when his health began to fail him, finally slowing him down. If his health hadn’t failed, he would have still been working at Cochran Logs Lumber right down the road from his house.
He always worked hard to provide a good life for his family. Dad was a very loving and kind man. He was a man of a few words. But oh how he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Just to mention there names, his face would light up with a big smile, priceless. I will cherish those memories for the rest of my life. And during his spare time you could find him in the back yard working on his baby that 55 Chevy, he loved so much. Yeah he had a love for cars and especially the fast racing cars. And everyone knew him as the man who call everybody “CUZ”
Joe leaves to cherish his memory his devoted children: Carolyn (Michael) Thomas, Maurice Tarver, and Valerie Toney; daughter-in-law Mary Facen; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; his siblings: brother, Donald (Betty) Franklin and sister, Margaret Berry of Apopka, Florida; his bonus children, Daniel Thomas, Curtis Toney, and Michael Toney; god daughter, Jennifer Upshaw; his in-laws, Ervin (Mary Ann) Toney, Roy (Joesphine) Toney, Nixion (Christine) Toney, and Minnie L. Toney; a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary (Toney) Facen; his parents, Bessie Lee (Grider) and Jesse “Fate” Facen; aunt, Louisana (Grider) Tarver; sons, Bobby and Donald Facen; daughter, Annie Pearl Streeter; brother, Wallace Murray, and sister, Edna Bowen.
