Mary Jackson Obituary

Mary Odell Turner Jackson was born on February 19, 1933, in Troy, Alabama, to the late Robert and Pauline Turner. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 9, 2025, at 92 years young. She was united in holy matrimony to Leroy Jackson in 1971, and they shared 47 years of marriage.

Mother Jackson worked in the school cafeteria of the Eufaula City Schools for many years, where she was affectionately known as “Grandma” to countless schoolchildren. She also worked at Crowne Nursing for several years. Beyond her work, she was an active member of her community and volunteered faithfully with RSVP.

Mary Odell accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in 1971. She became a member of Solid Rock Deliverance Center Church in 1972, where she faithfully served the Lord. In 1983, she was ordained and licensed for ministry under Pastor Jake Thomas. Minister Jackson was anointed to preach and teach the Word of God and served in many capacities within the church, including church mother, president of the women’s ministry, usher ministry, intercessory prayer ministry, nursing home ministry, and as a member of the choir and praise team.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Pauline Turner; her husband, Leroy Jackson; her sisters, Meller Dixon, Ada Bains, Easter Young, Gearldean (Doll) T. Kincey, and Willie Mae Grubbs; her brothers, Amos Turner, James Turner, George Turner, and Willie Paul Turner; and her children, Willie T. Freeman, Herbert Freeman, and Mary Kate Craddock.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Alice Kincey of Abbeville, Alabama, and Lucy Furman of Edwin, Alabama; her loving children, Alice Dean Horn of Birmingham, Alabama, Florine Hill (Roy) of Eufaula, Alabama, Foy Lee Jackson of Eufaula, Alabama, Leon Jackson of Suffolk, Virginia, Douglas Craddock Sr. of Abbeville, Alabama, and Apostle Paul Horn (Tracey) of Dothan, Alabama; and her grandson, Leon Jackson Jr. She is also remembered with love by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition, she leaves behind her goddaughters, Lillian Hollins, Patricia Brown, Rita Washington, Solome Thompson, and Janice Williams; her special godson, Bishop Freddie Lewis III (Michelle); and two very dear friends, Blanche Shepard and Mary Solomon.
