Mary (Ellison) Merrill

Mary Merrill, 79, of Poston, South Carolina, was born on May 19, 1943, to Frank Ellison, Sr. and Carrie Ellison in Poston SC. Mary graduated from Battery Park High School.

As a young women she moved to New York City. She worked at various jobs including the Cherry & Doll Factory and New York Telephone Company known as AT&T/Verizon, where she retired after 25 years. During that time, she found a church home were she served as an usher for years.

In 1964, Mary met Joe Lee Merrill in Brooklyn, NY. On February 25, 1967, they were married, from this union were born three children Randy, Frederick and Veronica Merrill. She spent her days contributing to her job and being a loving, supportive, and nurturing wife and mother.

In 1995, Mary retired and moved to Eufaula, AL with her husband where she enjoyed a leisurely life attending events, joining  the Classy Ladies Birthday Club, traveling, dining out and her favorite past time of watching her favorite television shows. She was a faithful member at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church as a Deaconess and a member of the kitchen staff.

Mary transitioned on April 20, 2023, after battling a long-time illness. She was preceeded in death by her father Frank Ellison, Sr., mother Carrie (Eaddy) Ellison, sister Martha Woodberry and brother Frank Ellison, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband Joe Lee Merrill , two sons Randy (Tracey) Merrill, Frederick Douglas (Jamila) Merrill and daughter Veronica Marie Merrill all residing in New York and step-daughter Annette Sanders. Two sisters Joan Williams and Magalene Ellison, and brother Fred Ellison (Jacksonville, SC). She has five grandchildren Kevaughn Merrill, Justin Merrill, Maya Merrill, Branden Brown, Chantell Browne, and great-grand Julian Browne; As well as a host of devoted, caring and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved dearly.
