Mattie Bell (Blythers) Dennis

Mattie Bell (Blythers) Dennis was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, born on July 26, 1963, the sixth of eight children to Amos Blythers (deceased) and Annie C. (Thomas) Blythers. She was called home to the Lord on June 10, 2023. She is preceded in death by a brother (Amos Lonnie Blythers) and two sisters (Queen Esther Blythers Helms and Lucy Betty Blythers Armstrong).

Mattie accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Eufaula, AL where she was involved in youth ministry and a member of the choir. Mattie is an alumna of the Barbour County School System (Alabama); she graduated from Clayton High School in 1981. She then furthered her education at Chauncey Sparks State Technical College (presently known as Wallace Community College) in Eufaula, AL where she enrolled in clerical courses.

She became an administrative professional and began her career at the Barbour County Department of Human Resources and retired in 2018 after 34 years of service. She enjoyed helping others throughout the community through her work in public service.

In her personal life, Mattie enjoyed traveling to the beach and spending time with her family. She was especially known for cooking during the holidays, family gatherings, and church events. She will be truly missed.

Mattie leaves to mourn her death her loving mother Mrs. Annie C. Blythers of Clayton, AL, loving husband Rufus Dennis, daughter Carrie Nicole Daniels (Antonio) Thomas of Smyrna, GA, son Corey Rashad Dennis of McDonough, GA, a daughter and son through marriage: Akefa Treshanna Dennis (Kareem) Lamons of Eufaula, AL and John Christopher (Amelia) Dennis of Eufaula, AL, one brother Harry Anderson (Mae Dell) Blythers of Rocky Ford, GA, three sisters: Evelyn Blythers of Decatur, GA, Annie M. Blythers of Union City, GA., Jennifer Lois (Alonzo) Davis of Eufaula, AL, one uncle Robert Thomas of Clayton, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
