Mrs. Mattie Pearl Lynn was born in Georgetown, GA on August 29, 1939. Mr. & Mrs. Johnny Johnson and Sallie Mae Johnson were her parents. Mattie Bell White and Judge White assisted in raising her. They preceded her in death including all of her brothers and sisters, Clinton Mandeville Junior, Tommy Lee Johnson, Bernice Johnson, Eddie C. Johnson, Johnny L. Johnson, Ronald Earle Johnson, Robert Edward Johnson, Saundra Johnson and Willie White. Also preceding in death was Lily Ruth Lewis, best friend.
She came to know God at an early age at Berry Chapel Missionary Church, Georgetown GA. She graduated Kaigler Training School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart James Lynn who was from Abbeville AL. They left Georgia when James entered the Army, ultimately residing in New York City. Mattie trained in computer card key punch operations and worked at JC Penny as a key board operator. God blessed them with two daughters, Felecia Yvette and Gwendolyn. James always said he married Mattie because "she was going places", and they did. They opened up a paint contracting business and then moved into real estate owning multiple properties.
In 1986, they relocated back to Alabama, joined Union Grove Baptist Church and continued to own rental properties. At the age of 78, James heavenly transitioned with Mattie at his side. Mattie continued on at Union Grove as a dedicated member rising to be Missionary President, Choir Member, Association Secretary, and Superintendent of the Congregation & Youth Sunday School. At the age of 86, Mattie never retired and was a FANTASTIC BUSINESS WOMAN!!!
She departed this life on May 7, 2026, at the Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.
Missionary President Lynn leaves to cherish: her daughters Felecia Yvette Lynn & Gwendolyn Lynn and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends that will miss her dearly, including two very close friends Ruby Lawrence and Janice Rhoades.
