Quincy Floyd Boatwright was born on January 5, 1944 in the Bethlehem Community of Abbeville, Alabama. He was the 16th child born from the union of Charlie Boatwright and Hattie Rose Richards Boatwright. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. His early years were spent building family and friendship connections that he would cherish throughout his life. Quincy attended the Henry County Training School where he was a standout player in football and basketball.
After graduating from high school in 1961, he moved to Carson, California. He was then called to Army, active duty, and was deployed to fight in the Vietnam War. During his tour in Vietnam, he served valiantly and sacrificed greatly for his country.
After service, he resumed life in Carson where his brother Fred also resided. A close bond developed between Quincy and his brother, sister-in-law (Sabra) and their three children (Fred Jr, Stephanie and Diane). Because of the distance from home, this bond became a great comfort to their mother, Hattie.
In June 1994, Quincy met Lavada, they later married and resided in Torrance, California, until 2008 when they moved to Headland, Alabama, where he remained until his death on July 9, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Hattie; sisters Annie, Ruby, Arrie and Kay; brothers Richard, Charlie Martin, Albert, Fred and James.
Here to mourn his loss is his loving wife Lavada; his sisters Eva President of Tallahassee, Florida, Bernice Turner of Abbeville, Alabama and Evelyn May (Robert) of Columbus, Georgia; four brothers Myrtis Boatwright of Westfield, New Jersey, Melvin Boatwright (Cheryl), Earnest Boatwright and Bobby Joe Boatwright all of Abbeville, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
