Rickey Grubbs, Sr. was born in Ft. Gaines, Georgia on July 19, 1965. He was the son of Shirley Mae Grubbs and the late Adas Jean Sankey.
He united with the Popular Springs Missionary Church very early in life where he served as a Deacon until relocating to Huntsville, AL. After graduating from Abbeville High School in 1983, Rickey joined the United States Marine Corp where he served for eight years. He was later employed at Michelin Tire Corp for 20 years. Lastly, he was employed with Fox Army Health Center where he diligently worked as a Project Manager.
Rickey was an avid sports fan, and he shared that passion with his children and grandchildren. For many years Rickey was an active mentor and coach to many youths in the Abbeville Area.
Rickey leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Barbara Truitt Grubbs; his children: John (Jennifer) Grubbs, Rickey (Jeleisa) Grubbs, Jeffrey (Joycelyn) Grubbs and Raven (Bryan) Grubbs, and his cherished twelve grandchildren; John Jr, Alexandria, Anastacia, Toa, Kamryn, Kadence, Karter, London, Savannah, Jaxson, CJ and Rayne. He also leaves his mother, Shirley Grubbs and two sisters, Sharon Feggins and Sandra Grubbs. He leaves his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Johnny and Martha Truitt and grandmother-in-law, Rowanna Mathis.
He also leaves to cherish two special nieces and a nephew, Erica Feggins, Sonya Richards, and William Feggins, Jr.; a special friend, James Sammy Owens; a special cousin, James Spann; special aunts and uncles, Bob (Debra) Spann, Tommy Spann, Nancy Edwards, Earlene (Willie) Lawrence, Arlister Spann, Sallie Spann, Patricia Carter, and Annie Spann; and a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty Jo Truitt and Antonio Truitt.
Finally, Rickey leaves to cherish his memories a host of cousins, friends, and extended family; Robert Sankey, Larry Sankey, Willie Sankey, Barbara Ann Shaw, Leoner Isom and Mary Joyce Lynn.
