On Friday, January 20, 2023 at 10:05 AM Mr. Riley Ross, Jr. transitioned peacefully from this life surrounded by his family at Crowne Health Care, Room # 23B in Eufaula, Alabama. He was born March 31, 1938 in Clayton, Alabama to the late Rev. Riley C. Ross, Sr. and Mrs. Bertha Mae Skipper Ross. Brother Ross was one of fifteen children, ten boys and five girls.
Brother Ross confessed Christ at an early age. He joined into fellowship with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W. C. Conley. After returning home to retire five years ago, he rejoined St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Alfonzie Ross.
He attended Sand Hill Elementary School, located at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. He also attended Middle School at Barbour County Training School in Clayton, AL.
Brother Ross moved to Florida at a very early age. He later relocated to Newton Grove, NC. His employment consisted of various positions in seasonal work and logging.
He later met and married Ms. Josephine Jones and to this union God blessed them with four children.
Brother Ross was preceded in death by his daughter, Darline Eliza Jones; his grandson, Riley Romance Ross; six brothers, Johnny Mack, Willie James, Walter Charles, Willie Lee, Robert Lee and Joseph.
He leaves cherished memories to five daughters, Patricia Ann Ross of Benson, NC, Vernell (Roy) McKay of Montgomery, AL, Diana Ross of Tampa, FL, Samanthia Byrd of Ft. Myers, FL, and JaMealyah Ross of Newton Grove, NC; five sons, Larry (Linda) Jones of Tampa, FL, Michael (Loretha) Alexander of St. Louis, MO, Larry Hampton of Ft. Myers, FL, Tommy Jones of Dunn, NC, and Christher (Natasha) Jones of Cedar Rapids, IA; thirty-five grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy Mae Ross Smith and Ruby Dean Ross (John) Spencer, both of Eufaula, AL, Rosie Nell Ross Issac of Newton, AL, Mary Ann Ross Simmons and Annie Pearl Ross (Lee) DeLoach, both of Clayton, AL; three brothers, Harvey Lee (Loria) Ross Sr and Eddie C. Ross, both of Clayton, AL, and Rev. Alfonzie (Terri) Ross of Eufaula, AL; one sister-in-law, Mary Frances McClendon Ross of Benson, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and many sorrowing friends.
