The Purpose
For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him. 1 Samuel 1:27
Rodney James Russaw was born on September 16, 1971, in Eufaula, Alabama, to James Russaw and Mable Riley Russaw, who preceded him in death. He was lovingly known by family and friends as “Big Man.”
At an early age, Rodney accepted Christ and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Abbeville, Alabama, where he was baptized by the late Rev. E. L. Knight.
Tilling the Soil
Rodney was educated in the Barbour County School System and graduated from Eufaula High School in 1989. A proud Tiger, he earned a baseball scholarship to attend Selma University in Selma, Alabama, and later attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama.
Though his journey began in sports, Rodney discovered his true joy on the open road. He found fulfillment as a logistics driver, where the freedom of travel allowed him to embrace life on his own terms.
Affectionately called “Big” in later years, he was known for his love of traveling, his ability to meet no strangers, his eagerness to learn, and his gift for building lasting connections. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.
The Harvest
Rodney leaves to cherish his memory: his father, James Russaw of Eufaula, Alabama; two brothers, Al Jacobs of Jacksonville, Florida, and his twin, Rodrick O’Neal (Marilyn) Russaw of Griffin, Georgia; and one sister, Krystale Peterson of Eufaula, Alabama. To his lineage he leaves four children: Ryan and Taylor Russaw of Atlanta, Georgia, and Thymond and Axiom McGlockton of Tallahassee, Florida. His love also extends to his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, childhood friends, and the lifelong friendships he cultivated throughout his journey.
The Plan
Death is the last chapter of time on earth, the first chapter of eternity.
