Sallie Mae Woodard-Harris was born May 6, 1933 to the late Albert Woodard and the late Annie Brooks Woodard, in Barbour County, Alabama.
She attended White Oak Community School. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Tabernacle A.M.E. Church. She later joined Mt. Silla Baptist Church, but returned to her home church as the Mother of the Tabernacle A.M.E. Church. She also served on the Usher Board and was a member of A Bright Crown Chapter -220.
Sallie Mae Woodard was joined in holy matrimony on January 27, 1951 to the late Mr. Arthur James Harris, Sr. Born to this union were ten children. Three children preceded her in death, Shirley Ann Harris, Alfred Harris and Arthur Harris, Jr.
She retired from the Barbour County School System as a cafeteria cook. Sallie Mae Harris, 88 of Clayton, Alabama, passed away on March 3, 2022 at Piedmont Midtown Hospital in Columbus, GA.
Sallie Mae Harris leaves to cherish her memories seven children, Otis C. Harris (Clara), Annie D. Harris, Arma J. Harris, Andrew J. Harris (Emily), Larry B. Harris (Deborah), Diane Scott (Lester), Linda Harris; special nieces and nephews, Jewel Woodard, Michael Wilson, and Mary Glover; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren; one god daughter, Essie Palmer; one daughter -in -law, Trinda Harris; her siblings, Fannie Burks of Clayton, AL, Carolyn Jones of Port Orange, FL, Annie Woodard of Palm Coast, FL, Mary Elizabeth Woodard, Brenetta Ramsey, Albert Woodard Jr, and Bernice Woodard, all of East Chicago, IN, Mildred Woodard of Yorktown, VA, Elmer Woodard (Doris) of Newport News, VA, and Hosie Rogers of Eufaula, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
