Obituary

ShunTina Simone Diggs Jones was born on October 26, 1993 to Willie Arthur Diggs and Jennifer Palmore Diggs.

ShunTina accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the early age of four at Mount Mariah Baptist Church in Clayton, Alabama, where she served faithfully until God called her home on May 19, 2023.  She was educated in the Barbour County School System at Clayton Elementary and Middle Schools.  She was a graduate of Barbour County High School, Class of 2012.  She graduated with Honors and was Class Secretary.  She was an active participant in band, SGA, FBLA, Science, and Math Club.  She worked as a 911 dispatcher at the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office.  Also, she worked as a Home Healthcare Nurse.  ShunTina continued and received her Class B Teaching License in Education at Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama.

ShunTina, aka “Tootie” (from her Uncle Legary), was a lover of family, friends, cooking, and fashions.  She worked diligently as president of the Parents Teachers Organization of Barbour County Primary and Intermediate Schools.  In between time cooking gourmet meals for family and friends on holidays and other special occasions, and posting fashionable, colorful head adornings, she enjoyed traveling...always on the go!  Tina, Mink, Mama Jen, and Granny O spent many weekends, relaxing on the sandy beaches of Destin, Florida.

Without a doubt, ShunTina weathered her share of trials and tribulations.  But, she stood strong and never wavered, for she knew there was no end until God said so.  Her life’s inspiration was her daughter Taiiya, affectionally called “Mink.”  Every day ShunTina woke to the morning sun and faced her trials head-on as God intended for her.  She fought a good fight every day!  Sooner than expected, at the tender age of twenty-nine, the good Lord above said to her, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…”  She answered the call without hesitation.

She leaves cherished memories to her husband, Detrius Jones; a beloved daughter, Taiiya Jenese Goodwin; a loving and supportive mother, Jennifer Palmore Diggs and father, Willie Arthur Diggs (Sharon); three brothers, Kavon Diggs, Willie Arthur Diggs, Jr and Aaron Diggs; grandmothers, Olivia Denese Welch and Willie Frank Diggs; five uncles, Tory Robertson, John Diggs (Abby), James Diggs (Hope), Charles Diggs (Pearlese) and Legary Diggs (Sharon); aunt, Jretha Diggs; four special cousins, Brittany Griffin, DeOndria Reeves, Donj Strong and Jaquavius Bowick; a cousin of namesake, Marilyn Tina Lyles; two step sons; a mother-in-law, Ann Thomas; two sisters-in-law, Brittany Jones and Dominique Brutley; a god-mother, Lora Lightner; god brother, Roc McCray; five god-children; a host of loving and devoted cousins, relatives and friends.

ShunTina was preceded in death by her beloved grandfather in 2019, Lonnie Diggs...She left these words, “Not a day goes by I don’t think of him...He was my best friend and a great dad!  His love for me always supported me.  I love you dearly and I know you are in peace.  I love you until the end of time”~ShunTina
