Walter Britt Nelson, Sr. was born on January 15, 1957 to the late John Richard and Mary Lou Nelson. He was called home to the Lord on April 21, 2025. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Henry Sewell, Virgil Nelson, and Nathaniel Nelson, and one grandson, Duke Danzey.
As a child, with his brothers and sisters he joined Spring Hill Baptist Church. While attending high school, Walter loved football, even earning the title of “Most Valuable Player”. Upon graduation from Abbeville High School, Walter eventually worked at Michelin Dothan Manufacturing where he retired after 32 years of dedicated service.
Walter, or affectionately known as “Britt” was well known and loved by his family and in his community. A man of integrity, he was known for his calm spirit, sharp wit, and sense of humor. There was never a shortage of laughs when he was in the room. Walter was an avid Alabama Football fan so he was known to unleash a “Roll Tide” wherever he went.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving and devoted wife, Janice Nelson; one son, Walter B. Nelson Jr.; one stepdaughter Y. Tierre Danzey, Dothan, AL; two stepsons, DeShawn Danzey (Argentina) and Denzel Danzey, Dothan, AL; four granddaughters, Sienna Johnson, Aziyah Danzey, Afrika Danzey, and Azuri Danzey; one grandson, Marcus A. Ford; his step-mother, Betty Nelson, Abbeville, AL; two brothers, Willie (Elaine) Nelson, Abbeville, AL and Bobby (Gwen) Nelson, Pensacola, FL; three sisters, Josie Evans, Hampton Cove, AL, Sherry (Avery) Cannon, Leawood, KS, and Emma (Harold) Griffin, Pensacola, FL; five sisters-in-law, Judy Nelson, Abbeville, AL, Angie Nelson, Jacksonville, FL, Rose Gunter and Alma Kinsey, Abbeville, AL, Mary Flucker, Headland, AL; five aunts, a very good friend, Zae Galloway; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will all miss him dearly.
