Mr. Willie D. (Rex) Danzey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on November 15, 2025 at the age of 64, at Southeast Health Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. He was born on February 22, 1961 in Abbeville, Alabama, where he spent his early years surrounded by family and friends.
A proud veteran, Willie dedicated many years of his life to serving in the military, earning respect and admiration from his peers and superiors alike. After retiring, he continued to exemplify the values of honor, integrity and dedication in all aspects of his life.
Willie is known for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone. He was a family man, putting their needs first and creating a loving home filled with laughter and joy. He had a passion for basketball, which he played in high school for Abbeville Yellow Jackets. He was an outstanding player and also broke many records. Willie was a big Dallas Cowboys Football fan as well.
He is survived by his loving wife of twenty-two years, Johnnie Johnson Danzey; two children, Endreia Shantel Johnson and Devontrey Stephon Johnson; four grandchildren, Zamaryah Sha’nya Norman, Kamari Za’mayiah Rumph, Rylan Amir Shipman and Zyaire Noelle Hill.
He leaves to cherish his memories three brothers, Cornelius Danzey (Cheryl), Stanley Danzey (Tonya), Joseph Danzey (Susie); four sisters, Phyllis Danzey McWilliams (Ronald), Paula Danzey Wilborn, Pamela Danzey and Mamie Danzey; two brothers-in-law, Ira Joe King and Robert Lee King; six sisters-in-law, Mary King Blackmon (William), Lillian Freeman (Joe), Allie King, Chris McCrae (Fred), Mae King and Lisa Burke (Jerome); special friend, Doug Ward, special cousin, Henry (Head) Danzey, and special niece, Monique Danzey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Floyd and Mary Ann Danzey; one sister, Rosie E. Danzey; one brother, Darren L. Danzey (Zan); two sisters-in-law, Rena Blackmon and Betty Ann Daffin (Jamie); two brothers-in-law, James King, Jr and Willie Roy King.
